Service Manager – HGV maintenance and repair shop
Here’s a great stage for your service management and customer service skills, working with an independent business that’s going places.
I’m looking for an excellent organiser, who has a detailed understanding of HGV maintenance and can provide a quality service to customers!
The company concerned provides maintenance, repair and recovery services to some of the UK’s largest fleet operators, as well as to many smaller, longstanding customers.
Until now the MD has worked the service desk himself, but now wants to hand this off to you so that he can concentrate on business development.
A qualified mechanic himself, he’ll give you all the support you need, while also giving you space to make the job, and the department, your own.
You’ll be dealing with customers and booking their work in to modern, highly equipped workshops that run around the clock. This includes urgent requirements.
The company provides planned preventative maintenance and service plans, as well as repairs and rebuilds, so there’s an element of managing recurring work and reminders.
There are around 5,000 different components in the stores, and you’ll also organise the parts management and ordering process to ensure great availability.
Needless to say, the technicians will rely on you to keep the work flowing in smoothly and realistically, so your technical HGV knowledge will be essential.
The MD started with the business as a mechanic aged 15 and eventually bought out the former owner some 20 years ago.
So, while you’re likely to be on the service desk already, he’s open to an ambitious technician who understands customer service and how to run an efficient shop.
Good planning and admin skills will also be vital, as will familiarity with computerised booking, billing and parts systems.
Your working week will be 40 hours, including some Saturdays.
Salary will reflect experience and there’ll be pension contributions, as well as 20 days’ annual paid leave that will rise with service.
